The Oscar nominee stepped out in London for a preview of the Gucci “Cosmos” exhibition in chunky Jenna Lyons–y eyeglasses, a mini-length leather pencil skirt, and a white shirt topped with a baby blue moto jacket. The 2000s vibes! Her hair in perfect waves, Hayek Pinault clutched a crystal-encrusted powder blue handbag that perfectly matched her heels.
The best part of the outfit is undoubtedly Hayek’s pen necklace, a trend from yesteryear that needs to make a comeback and is now closely associated with the character of Joan Holloway on Mad Men. In the ’60s-set series, Holloway (Christina Hendricks) is the undisputed queen of the Sterling Cooper office, HBIC of the secretaries, and she wears her pen necklace to show that she’s always ready and takes her job seriously, and as a sort of medal to display her rank.
Salma Hayek is uniquely adept at wearing leather, which, fitted incorrectly, can sometimes look like a Marvel superhero costume. Here she is in a red leather Alexander McQueen dress that’s snug but not skintight. Her natural curves give the dress structure; the dress doesn’t confine, restrict, or sculpt her.
