The Donovans is set to succeed the popular Showtime drama series. All 10 episodes will premiere later this year on Paramount+ for subscribers who have the Paramount+ with Showtime plan.
Ray Donovan concluded in January 2020 after a seven-season run. The series premiered in 2013 and was canceled in February after the seventh season’s finale. Liev Schreiber starred in the series as the title character. He later starred in and co-wrote the 2022 feature film Ray Donovan: The Movie.
Guy Ritchie is at the project’s helm, serving as director and executive producer. The series is written and produced by screenwriter and novelist Ronan Bennett.
“Guy Ritchie and Ronan Bennett are the ideal dream-team to create a new global hit franchise with The Donovans,” said Chris McCarthy, President of Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios. “Guy’s riveting and stylish directorial approach combined with Ronan’s captivating and brutally authentic writing will transfix audiences into a wild and twisted world full of new adventures.”
“Having Guy and Ronan sign on to join us on this incredible journey has been a true blessing,” said David C. Glasser, CEO of 101 Studios. “We could not be more thrilled to take this huge hit and create a new and exciting show for audiences all over the world.”
Alongside Richie and Bennett, The Donovans will be executive produced by Glasser, Ron Burkle, Bob Yari, David Hutkin and Ivan Atkinson. The series comes from Paramount+, Showtime / MTV Entertainment Studios and 101 Studios.
The original series was created by Ann Biderman and centered on a fixer whose relationship with his family is complicated. Schreiber earned three Emmy nominations for outstanding lead actor in a drama series during Ray Donovan’s run.
