Exploring the Complexity of Life in “Things We Never Got Over”

    An Overview of the Characters

In Lucy Score’s “Things We Never Got Over,” we are introduced to Knox, a tough yet solitary barber who enjoys life with his basset hound, Waylon. Knox is characterized as the quintessential bad-boy type who shuns drama and complication. His life takes a tumultuous turn when Naomi, a runaway bride, unexpectedly enters the scene, igniting a series of events that will force him to reevaluate his preferences for solitude.

    Naomi’s Journey and Challenges

Naomi is not merely escaping her wedding; she is making a significant detour to help her estranged twin-in a rough town called Knockemout, Virginia. This town has its own unique culture, where conflicts are settled in rather old-fashioned ways. However, upon her arrival, Naomi soon realizes that her twin sister, Tina, is not the person she hoped to reunite with. Instead of finding assistance, she discovers the harsh reality that she has been left stranded, with responsibilities she never anticipated, including an 11-year-old niece whom she never knew existed.

The Evolving Dynamic Between Knox and Naomi

Initially, Knox wants nothing more than to help Naomi out of her predicament and return to his peaceful life. Yet, as they face new challenges and dangers in Knockemout, their relationship begins to grow, forcing both characters to confront their pasts and the complications of intimacy. Will Knox—and Naomi—be able to find a way to navigate the hurdles of their lives, or will their complicated histories keep them circling back to their solitary ways?
