This nonfiction work, set to be released on November 12 by Scribner, delves into the intricate relationship between celebrated writers Joan Didion and Eve Babitz, both of whom captured the essence of 1960s California through their powerful narratives. Their passing just days apart in December 2021 marked the end of an era, and their stories continue to resonate with readers.

    In an exclusive email interview with People, Roberts shared her deep admiration for Didion, stating, “Joan Didion was the first writer I truly loved as an adult person.” Her personal connection to Didion underscores the impact of literature on identity and understanding. Roberts expressed that discovering Didion felt like experiencing a personalized dialogue, enhancing the reader’s emotional engagement with the text.

    A Collaboration with Tertulia

    This edition of Belletrist’s book club selection marks the beginning of an exciting collaboration with Tertulia, an innovative online platform for book discovery. Through this partnership, Belletrist offers a paid subscription service, including the mailing of monthly book picks directly to subscribers.
