Introduction to Tommy Dorfman’s Memoir

Tommy Dorfman, an acclaimed actress and advocate for gender identity awareness, has announced her new memoir, Maybe This Will Save Me. Set to be released on May 27, 2025, this book promises to be a deeply personal exploration of her life, inspired by a profound tarot reading.

A Trip to Montana: The Birth of an Idea

While on a transformative trip to Montana with friends, Dorfman experienced a moment of clarity that compelled her to delve into her past. Growing up as the youngest of five in a turbulent environment, she often turned to drugs and alcohol as coping mechanisms during her teenage years. After publicly coming out as a trans woman in July 2021, Dorfman realized there were still parts of her journey she needed to confront.

The Essence of Her Journey

In Maybe This Will Save Me, Dorfman aims to recount her rise to fame, covering her beginnings in theater to her breakout role as Ryan Shaver in Netflix’s 13 Reasons Why. This memoir will not only discuss her professional achievements but also the challenges she faced in her sobriety journey and the key relationships that shaped her identity. As she explained, her hope is to resonate with readers from all walks of life through her labor of love.

Editor John Glynn aptly noted that Dorfman’s work is both structurally daring and emotionally resonant. As excitement builds for the memoir’s release, it is clear that Dorfman is set to inspire many with her powerful narrative of self-acceptance.
