Exciting News for Literary Fans
In a thrilling announcement, the Booker Prize Foundation revealed that Sarah Jessica Parker will be joining the 2025 Booker Prize judging panel. Known for her iconic role as Carrie Bradshaw in ‘Sex and the City,’ Parker is not just an accomplished actress but also a passionate advocate for literature.
Parker’s Literary Journey
Last year, the 59-year-old star launched her own imprint, SJP Lit, through independent publisher Zando, affirming her commitment to the literary world. Her previous experience as the editorial director of SJP for Hogarth showcases her dedication. Her journey into the realm of books began in childhood, inspired by her mother’s fervor for reading. In a recent interview with The New York Times, Parker reminisced about her mother’s habit of reading even while driving, which sparked her own love for literature.
Preparing for the Role
Parker’s new role as a judge for the prestigious literary award may involve reading as many as 170 books. Fortunately, due to a break in her filming commitments, she now has the time to dive into her reading. This opportunity aligns perfectly with her earlier expressed desire to become a Booker Prize judge, as evidenced by her enthusiastic comment on the award’s Instagram post last year.
Joining Parker on the panel are literary giants such as 1993 Booker Prize winner Roddy Doyle, writer and broadcaster Chris Power, and Booker Prize-longlisted authors Ayọ̀bámi Adébáyọ̀ and Kiley Reid. While Parker has made a significant impact in the literary community, she has also shared her struggles with self-doubt within this esteemed role.
