In her new poetry book, Eat the World, Marina takes a brave step into uncharted territory, revealing the emotional shadows she has long kept hidden. Marking the end of a difficult era, 2022 saw Marina forgo her usual songwriting in favor of poetry, discovering a lack of structure that transformed into an exploration of her darkest parts. The book, released on October 29 via Penguin Random House, dives into personal topics such as trauma, love, eating disorders, and her youth.
Connecting Through Vulnerability
Many artists shy away from disclosing their vulnerabilities; however, Marina found solace in her words. “This book is very raw and honest and magnifies the parts of myself that I probably hide a lot of,” she shares. Through sharing her imperfections, Marina aims to foster a sense of belonging among readers. In an era of social media-induced disconnection, her work is a reminder of our shared humanity, tackling issues many face but few discuss.

Reflecting on her writing experience, Marina notes that the poem Cocoon was particularly pivotal, encapsulating a significant chapter in her life. As she embarks on promoting her book, she hopes it resonates deeply with others, particularly regarding her experiences with eating disorders and societal expectations surrounding motherhood. “I just don’t have the bandwidth in me and that that’s ok,” she expresses, emphasizing the importance of allowing oneself the freedom to choose. Ultimately, her journey through poetry illuminates the importance of embracing and integrating our shadowy areas, enriching the lives of those who seek companionship in their struggles.
