Allison Holker’s New Memoir: A Glimpse into Love and Loss
Allison Holker, renowned judge from ‘So You Think You Can Dance,’ recently shared insights into her emotional writing process for her upcoming memoir, titled This Far: My Story of Love, Loss, and Embracing the Light. In an interview at the Rookie Kids Fashion Show on September 26, Holker elaborated on how writing this memoir served as a cathartic outlet for her and her family following the tragic death of her husband, Stephen ‘twitch’ Boss, in 2022.
Documenting a Journey of Healing
Holker expressed that this memoir is not just a collection of stories, but rather a heartfelt account of her life that she wishes to share with her children—Weslie, 16; Maddox, 8; and Zaia, 4. She explained, “This book is a tell-all of my life, just to share with my kids and my family the experiences that we’ve had.” Through her writing, she aims to convey the complexities surrounding their collective grief while also reiterating an optimistic message: “You’re gonna be okay.”
A Message of Patience and Understanding
The process of writing was initially paused after Boss’s heartbreaking death. However, Holker highlighted the importance of patience as she navigated this journey with her children. Each child is experiencing grief uniquely, and Holker emphasized the need to respect their individual healing journeys. She intends for her children to read the memoir at their own pace, saying, “It’s really up to them and their timing.” The essence of Holker’s messages revolves around the understanding that everyone heals differently, which is a central theme of her memoir.
